Sustainability can be defined simply as fulfilling present needs while safeguarding our capacity to fulfill future needs. Biosphere reserves actively pursue this goal, recognizing that instantaneous change is not always feasible and that equilibrium must be reached amid conflicting demands.
The Man and the Biosphere Programme aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, referred to as the Global Goals, which outline a framework for the well-being of people, the planet, economic prosperity, peace, and collaborations. These Goals were formulated in 2015, and the global aim is to accomplish them by the year 2030.
